Costa Rica, 85mins, dir. Neto Villalobos Laughter and lunacy abound in this cheerful debut from Costa Rica about persistence, friendship and cockerels, without a single drop of animal blood being spilt! Chalo is a bored security guard at an empty industrial site. So, to add excitement to his life, he buys Rocky, a fighting cock. However, when he starts training it, Chalo becomes mixed up in a series of absurd situations. Cock fighting is an illegal but extremely popular pastime amongst Costa Rica’s working class, and Chalo and his constant companion Rocky make new friends and allies all over. With deadpan humour, All About the Feathers moves at a cracking pace as Chalo’s monotonous life grows increasingly colourful. The cast consists of celebrated local musicians alongside professional and amateur actors.
Costa Rican Neto Villalobos’ first feature film “Por las plumas” (All about the feathers), debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, participated thereafter in film festivals around the world including Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, New York, Guatemala (Best Movie and Best Central American Director) and Santander (Best Script). He has worked on several shortfilms and participated in other workshops, among those “Cómo se cuenta un cuento” (How to tell a tale) with Gabriel García Márquez, Script workshop at Typa Argentina, Berlin´s and Buenos Aires Talent Campus and Rotterdam´s XL Lab.
