It has fast forwarded into the new century with amazing speed and has marked cinema and art with a strong visual and original impact.

SOUTH SOCIAL CELEBRATES CHILE

13 July, Elephant Park, London, SE17 1UB
On July 13 we celebrated Chile in multicultural and multidimensional festival that will celebrate Chile by way of independent cinema, world music and regional cuisine.The festival was dedicated to a real fascinating country like Chile. Exploring diversity and culture to shine a light on the Latino community based in the area. We screened  a beautiful film by Dominga Sotomayor, TARDE PARA MORIR JOVEN

SOUTH SOCIAL CELEBRATES SPAIN

8th June 6.00pm-10.30pm Moving Pictures Cinema @MercatoMetropolitano      
We were delighted to return to Moving Pictures Cinema in June to celebrate Spain. We celebrated a country of rich culture through a film screening, flamenco dancing, tapas and discussion. Our screening was ’Carmen y Lola’ from talented filmmaker, Arantxa Echevarria. The film explored genres and genders as it highlighted the issues faced by the LGBTQ community in modern society.

SOUTH SOCIAL CELEBRATES JAPAN

6 April, Moving Pictures Cinema, Mercato Metropolitano, Newington Causeway, SE1 6DR
On April 6 we celebrated Japan at a new venue, Mercato Metropolitano. The evening was filled with a range of content which was well received by our very active audience who participated in all of our activities: 18:00 Sake taster by Yutaka Dinner by Katsuma 19:00 Festival introduction Music with MIOU 19:30 Screening of Close Knit by Naoko Ogigami 21:30 Panel discussion with Japanese experts, Irene Gonzales-Lopez (Kingston University) and Griseldis Kirsch (SOAS).

SOUTH SOCIAL CELEBRATES BLACK CULTURE

2-3 February TheatrePeckham Peckham
On February 2-3, we celebrated Black Culture at Theatre Peckham, our biggest event to date. The different voices, the diverse content and the enthusiasm with which  everyone engaged in our programme was heartwarming. Here’s a short summary of what happened:

With the success of Black Culture 2019, we would like to go ahead with the second edition of Black Culture 2020, to celebrate more diverse culture, films, food and music.
