U.K., 101mins, dir. Kate Lane
Eleanor is a young girl who abides to strict schedules, planned markers of success, and managed expectations in a well-manicured house infused with silence. Alexia, on the other hand, only ever thinks about tomorrow and to escape her tough upbringing. Sharing lazy summer days, rushed first kisses, and round-trip departures from home life – Alexia and Eleanor’s summer together transcends boundaries between class and love before truly realizing such boundaries exist. When tensions escalate, they stand up for one another before knowing what their brave acts of defiance really mean.
Creating a beautiful portrait of self-discovery, Fear of Water is an honest depiction of conquering one’s fears, breaking out from one’s shell, and finding happiness even from unexpected sources.
